A new member of the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau was arrested on Wednesday after he allegedly extorted PHP4,000 (US$78) from a driver.

Traffic enforcer Mark Ordinaryo was arrested by Sampaloc police after a 25-year-old driver accused him of extorting money from her.

According to the complainant, she was driving by the corner of Barlin and Tolentino Streets when she was flagged down by Ordinaryo for purported reckless driving, ABS-CBN News reported. After giving her a copy of her Ordinance Violation Receipt (OVR), Ordinaryo allegedly told her that instead of issuing her a ticket, he could choose to ignore her violation if she paid him instead.

The driver refused to give Ordinaryo the amount and also alleged that the OVR given to her had been previously used, Diaryo Bomba reported.

The suspect, who had been working as an enforcer for only six months, will be charged with robbery and extortion.
