Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada has outlawed the sale of alcoholic beverage around University of Santo Tomas in time for the bar examinations there. In an executive order issued on Monday, Estrada said the liquor ban will be imposed on all Sundays of October while the bar exams are being held. The order bans the “sell[ing], peddl[ing] or offer[ing] of … intoxicating beverage such as beer, liquor, wine, and the like.” The ban will start from 4am to 8pm within 200 meters of UST’s perimeter walls. Some 5,000 students will be taking the bar exams this year, which is chaired by Associate Justice Arturo Brion. And for the nerve-wracked aspiring lawyers, UST is a no-smoking campus since 2009, FYI.
