Manila hopes to install 10,000 solar-powered street lights this year

The city has very bright prospects, so to speak.

“On Monday night, Feb 17, another 50 units of solar-powered LED street lights were installed by the Manila city government along Antipolo Street all the way to Rotonda in España,” reports Jean Fernando in Manila Bulletin.

The report quoted Mayor Joseph Estrada, who said that the street lights were installed Monday night as part of the 10,000 units donated by the Global Gold Goal Inc. (GGGI) following the signing of a memorandum of agreement in September 2013.

In January, the first 10 solar-powered LED street lights were installed at the Rajah Soliman Plaza in Roxas Boulevard.

Estrada said the city government “intends to finish the installation of 10,000 solar-powered street lights in the city’s six districts within the year.”

Switching to the solar-powered LED street lights means a monthly savings of at least PHP18 million for the city.
