Will Manila win the crown?
“There is still no date and venue for the staging of the 2014 Miss Universe beauty contest, but it seems that the organizers are looking closely at the Philippines to be the host country for next year’s pageant,” reports Robert R. Requintina in Manila Bulletin.
The report only said that “sources” revealed that the city is one of the strong contenders for the pageant venue.
Brazil was originally rumored to be the venue for the 2014 Miss Universe Pageant. However, the Miss Universe Organization denied this.
They’re expected to make the announcement about the pageant’s venue “anytime soon.”
The first Miss Universe pageant hosted by the Philippines was in 1974 at the then newly constructed Folk Arts Theater. That year, Spain’s Amparo Munoz won the crown.
In 1994, the Miss Universe pageant was held at the Philippine International Convention Center. India’s Sushmita Sen took home the crown. That was also the year of Charlene Gonzalez’ “High tide or low tide?” quip.
