Inmates at the Manila City Jail are asking for the removal of their warden, Superintendent Lyndon Torres, due to alleged abuses.
At least 100 inmates, mostly members of the Sputnik Gang, gathered in the middle of the compound to hold a noise barrage and demand that Torres be replaced. The protesters allege that his men collect money from their relatives as “visitation fees”. The group also alleged that inmates are tortured for no apparent reason.
Torres, for his part said the inmates merely want him out so they can continue their illegal drug trade, the Philippine Star reported.
