Manila City gov’t launches free birth certificate program

Life demands a paper trail.

The city government of Manila is set to launch Operation Birth Right, an outreach program that will provide free civil registry services to its residents.

Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada was quoted as saying, “This is very alarming. Tens of thousands of children in Manila have no birth certificates or if they have [them], they’re fakes.”

“The first of a series of Operation Birth Right outreach missions will be held at Barangay 120 in Parola Compound, Tondo,” reports Jose Rodel Clapano in The Philippine Star.

The report noted: “Joey Cabreza of the Civil Registry Office said they expect to issue 3,000 to 4,000 birth certificates in one day.”
