Jesus would be proud.

“After nine months of restoration work, the Manila Cathedral-Basilica will reopen its doors on March 25,” reports Tricia Aquino of InterAksyon.com.

According to Msgr. Nestor Cerbo, the church’s rector, “a special event will mark the occasion on March 25, the Solemnity of the Annunciation.” The details will be finalized in February.

That means by March, “all major events of the Archdiocese of Manila will be again celebrated in the Basilica, after they were transferred to Paco Church during the restoration period.”

Churchgoers will benefit from the new audio-video systems, interior and exterior lighting, as well as and a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system. The church’s marble fittings, pews, bronze doors, the front facade, the bell tower, and “all architectural element affected by structural retrofitting” such as capitals, arches, and decoration moldings have also been refurbished.

The church’s electrical, drainage, and plumbing systems have also been fixed.

Cerbo revealed that donors came up with PHP90 million used for the renovation. As a matter of fact, they will be coming up with PHP30 million more for the final touches.
