There’s a difference between discipline and parental brutality.
“On Thursday morning, October 16, people who were lining up at the U.S. Embassy in Manila were shocked when they saw a man beating up a young girl, who turned out to be his daughter,” reports ANC.
The report revealed that the ABS-CBN News crew happened to be in the area and caught on camera the brutal encounter involving the man and his daughter.
The report noted: “The man pulled the girl’s hair and also hit her with a stick. He then dragged the girl toward the bay and then proceeded to dunk her into the water. He would pull her up and then repeat the same procedure. He did this for about five minutes. All throughout her ordeal, the girl was begging her father to stop hurting her.”
The report said “a security aide of a congressman who happened to be at the U.S. Embassy at that time approached the man and his daughter and tried to intervene.”
According to the report, the man only stopped hurting his daughter when the security aide threatened him by flashing his weapon that the man stopped dunking the girl into the water.
Nevertheless, the man yelled at the TV crew. “Huwag n’yo na akong kunan (ng video) family problem lang ito. Dinidisiplina ko lang. Pasaway talaga kasi ‘yan,” he said.
For some reason, he also declared, “Hindi ako Kristiano!” when he was trying to stop the TV crew from following him.
A security guard in the area said he would report the incident to the barangay officials. However, when the ABS-CBN News team later checked the offices of Barangay 667 and Barangay 668, as well as Police Community Precinct Station 5 in Ermita, both barangay and police officials said that no such case had been reported to them.
