Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal said today that they will advise the Office of Transportation Security (OTS) to designate queuing officers to screening checkpoints in all terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Pasay City.
The MIAA said in a statement that the request comes after Civil Service Commission Commissioner Aileen Lizada’s complaint that she witnessed Chinese-looking individuals skip the line and go under the barrier cordons at a pre-departure security line at NAIA Terminal 3 yesterday.
Lizada said she was in line with other passengers when four to five foreigners, who appeared to be Chinese nationals, went under the barrier and bypassed all of them.
“They were all laughing and they were all looking at us, and they went straight to the x-ray [machines],” she said in a voice message sent to reporters yesterday.
The MIAA did not confirm nor deny whether the foreigners did cut in line but said that they didn’t actually violate the security screening procedure because they were still inspected.
But that’s not really the issue, is it?
Lizada has requested CCTV footage from Monreal and said that she would take further action once the videos were released. In its statement, the MIAA said that Monreal has reviewed CCTV footage of the incident and assured Lizada that the video will be shared with her.
