Mandarin Oriental demolition work suspended

Safety should come first.

“The Makati City government has ordered the re-opening to traffic of Paseo de Roxas from the corner of Makati Avenue to Gil Puyat (Buendia) Avenue to ease traffic flow at the site of the now-being demolished Mandarin Oriental Hotel,” reports Mike Frialde on Philstar.com.

However, demolition work on the Locsin-designed building remains suspended until the Office of the Building Official submits its report on a Nov 27 accident that injured a 50-year-old Australian woman.

The demolition site had been cordoned off after the pedestrian was hit by falling debris while walking on the sidewalk. She broke her leg, and the debris also damaged an SUV.

“The Makati Social Welfare Department to extend full assistance to the victims, who were brought to the Makati Medical Center for treatment,” according to the report.
