Mandaluyong to implement ‘no relation, no back-ride’ ordinance

It’s all in the name of stopping “riding-in-tandem” crimes.

Mandaluyong City is set to implement the “no relation, no back-ride” ordinance. That means, motorcycle riders are only allowed to have their spouses, kids, or relatives “within first degree of consanguinity” on the motorcycle with them.

According to a TV Patrol report, the ordinance will be implemented sometime in August. Those who violate the law will face fines and jail time.

Police will presumably stop those riders whom they suspect to be not related. This ordinance may be somewhat problematic for couples who are not yet legally wed.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Quezon City Council approved a measure requiring all persons riding motorcycles going through the city’s roads to wear vests or any kind of sleeved clothing with the printed plate number of the motorcycles they are riding.

Perhaps, Quezon City’s solution is easier to implement? Also, what if the riding-in-tandem criminals are related?
