The man suspected of shooting and killing 15-year-old Mark Anthony Miranda inside his classroom was arrested in Calamba, Laguna earlier today.
Suspect Renan E. Valderama (aka Renz Ivan Valderama) was nabbed in Calamba City’s barangay (village) Pansol before 4am, ABS-CBN News reported. According to Radyo Inquirer, residents saw him walking around the village of Masili and informed the police.
Apart from staying in the city where the crime occurred, Valderama also posted on social media after shooting Mark Anthony, which was how the police monitored him.
Valderama is currently at the Calamba Police Station and had allegedly been jailed for theft in 2017.
Mark Anthony, a Grade 7 student, died on Thursday after Valderama allegedly shot him inside his classroom in Calamba’s Castor Alviar National High School.
The suspect, around 30 to 35 years old, was believed to be the victim’s guardian after the latter’s mother was detained for possession of illegal drugs. The two lived together and some suspected that they were in a relationship but according to the police, Mark Anthony had filed sexual abuse complaints against Valderama before the shooting happened. The suspect allegedly abused the victim from March to June.
The Department of Education has denounced Mark Anthony’s killing and said that students and staff of the Castor Alviar National High School will undergo “psychological debriefing” because of the violent incident that happened on campus.
