Man steals son’s body from morgue to escape hospital bills

This is the very definition of despair.

“On, Tuesday night, Dec 10, Marlon de Leon was invited for questioning by the Manila Police District after he was seen carrying his two-year-old son Kevin’s lifeless body, wrapped in a red cloth, in front of the Missionaries of Charity Home of Joy in Tayuman,” reports Jose Rodel Clapano in The Philippine Star.

The distraught De Leon admitted that he did not have the money to pay for his son’s hospitalization, so he stole the body from the morgue of the Pagamutang Bayan ng Malabon. Kevin had died there due to dehydration and malnutrition.

According to the report, Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno offered assistance to De Leon and later arranged for the boy’s remains to be buried at the Manila North Cemetery. The report cited Office of the Vice Mayor staff member Annie Tubera, who said Kevin was set to be buried yesterday, Dec 11.
