Man slashes wrists at NAIA, writes on wall with blood

This has got to be the weirdest story this week.

“Mazyad Darwish Alotayit, 48, arrived from Doha, Qatar before midnight Sunday, Mar 23, but was prevented from entering the country after he became unruly,” reports Rudy Santos in The Philippine Star.

That is, Alotayit got violent when an immigration officer asked him about some details about his visit to the country.

As such, the decision was made to bay Alotayit from entering the country. He was then brought to the NAIA dayroom at the departure area, where he was supposed to stay until the 5:30pm flight to Qatar yesterday, Monday, Mar 24.

While in the dayroom, Alotayit caused more trouble, ignoring pleas by employee Portia Ortiz not to smoke. Ortiz called the attention of Qatar Airways security personnel Dave Papilla to assist her in making Alotayit behave.

Alotayit then locked the dayroom’s door and refused to open it. Ortiz and Papilla went to get a duplicate key to open the dayroom. That was when they saw that, as the report detailed, “Alotayit had slashed his wrist with a broken compact disc and used his own blood to write on the dayroom wall.” That was around 4:30am.

The report noted: “A Muslim visa reader said it appeared that Alotayit had written Arabic words ‘in shorthand.'”

Alotayit was taken to the San Juan de Dios Hospital, where his wound was stitched. He was put on a flight back to Qatar on schedule.
