A place of worship turned into a crime scene when a man shot his wife and himself dead outside a church in Catarman, Camiguin yesterday morning.

Radyo Inquirer reported that the Catarman police identified the suspect as former Overseas Filipino Worker Celmar Linao, 37 years old, and the victim as 35-year-old Ivy Linao.

The same report says that Celmar attempted to kill his wife inside the San Roque Parish Church in the village of Poblacion during mass but his .45 caliber gun didn’t fire.

According to witnesses, Ivy ran to the church’s side entrance but was caught and allegedly shot there by her husband, Radyo Inquirer reported.

The bullet hit the victim’s left arm after she used it to defend herself. However, the bullet still went straight to her skull, causing her death.

Celmar then allegedly shot himself, ABS-CBN News added.

Two bullet shells were found at the crime scene, Radyo Inquirer reported.

ABS-CBN News stated that the Catarman Municipal Police believe the motive behind the killing was jealousy.

The mass which was being conducted by Father. Rolly Aniscal stopped when the incident happened, Tonite Abante reported.

Aniscal eventually continued the mass and asked worshippers to pray for the deceased couple.
