A man apparently filled with jealousy ended up setting his partner and their daughter on fire on Sunday, an incident that led to second-degree burns.

The incident happened at 3:30am in Silay City, Negros Occidental GMA News’ Balitambayan reported.

The man was identified as Cedie Gulmatico. Radio station RMN reported that the victims were his partner Cinderella Gargaceran, 24 years old, and their 3-year-old daughter.

According to the Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) of the Philippine National Police, the victims were sleeping inside their home when Gulmatico doused them with gasoline and set them on fire with a lighter, ABS-CBN News reported.

Bombo Radyo reported that their daughter was wrapped in her mother’s arms while sleeping, which is why she was also burned.

The victims are still in the hospital where they are being treated for second-degree burns, the same report added.

Gulmatico surrendered to the police after the incident, Balitambayan stated.

He reportedly did it out of jealousy, the WCPD stated. Gulmatico claimed that his partner had been cheating on him, an issue he says they’ve been fighting over for a long time, the Balitambayan report states.

Authorities also believe that the suspect uses illegal drugs, according to ABS-CBN News.

He is now facing charges of frustrated homicide.
