A man sustained serious injuries after he was set on fire on Wed, Sep 9, by an unknown suspect or suspects along Araneta Avenue in Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City.

The victim, who may have been abducted, narrated that he was dropped off from a vehicle near a funeral parlor at around 5:30am. The suspect or suspects then poured what seemed to be gasoline over him and set him ablaze.

The man was already burning from the waist down when barangay officials saw him and alerted the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Rescue Team.

Witnesses were not able to take note of the vehicle’s plate number. There is also no closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera in the area.

At past 10:30am, the MMDA Rescue Team was still searching for a burn unit that can accommodate the victim who sustained damages on 63% of his body.

Records from Barangay Tatalon identified the victim as Caloy Angeles who hails from Pangasinan. Conflicting information from the MMDA named him as Carlos Nuevo, 42-year-old native of Agno, Pangasinan.

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the incident. (from a report by Johnson Manabat, dzMM)
