A man was physically assaulted by officials of Barangay (village) 66 in Caloocan City yesterday after he allegedly asked if he could have relief goods.

Victim Ramil Victorio told news TV show 24 Oras News Alert that he was beaten up by village officials after he asked them for food because he has yet to receive any since the start of the Luzon lockdown, which left many Filipinos unemployed.

Angry officials allegedly punched him, and even hit him on the headRemate reports. But the officials insisted that it was Victorio who attacked them first; they also alleged that Victorio stole relief goods from them.

Victorio said, however, that the officials became incensed after he accused village chairman Ferdinand Lapira of playing favorites during food distribution, Bandera reports. Officials insisted that the victim is not eligible to receive relief goods because he was not a resident of the said village.

Despite being beaten black and blue, the victim will be charged with unjust vexation and physical injury.
