It’s day two without Uber. And if you were optimistic that cabs — who have been complaining that ride-sharing apps cut into their profits — would take the suspension as an opportunity to clean up their act, well, they haven’t.

This is why radio DJ Ganns Deen offered to drive two strangers he spotted on the road this morning. All in the spirit of bayanihan (communal unity). He posted a photo on Facebook this morning along with a story of what happened.

Deen offered to give them a ride after he learned that they were headed in the same direction.

“It was on the way to BGC, and I was glad I wouldn’t have to drive out of the way to get them to their destination. I like to believe that was God’s hand, putting me in the path of people who needed help,” Deen told Coconuts Manila.

The photo has received more than 1,000 reactions and more than 100 shares. Most of the comments were in praise of Deen and what he did.

Later in the day, he posted a photo with another person he helped out. This time through the carpooling app Wunder.

He encouraged others to do the same and help out others who are affected by the Uber suspension.

“This is why I’m using the #Bayanihan hashtag. Filipinos helping Filipinos with no concept of reward, just the understanding that we will somehow, in our own way, pay it forward,” Deen said.
