The Philippines’ Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced today that they are closely monitoring the case of the three unnamed Filipinas who were allegedly killed in Cyprus by a 35-year-old military officer.

The Greek-Cypriot suspect, whose name has been withheld by the media, confessed to killing seven women and girls, including the Filipinas, reported BBC.

The three Filipinas, as well as the six-year-old daughter of one of the women, were declared missing between 2017 and 2018, reported CNN Philippines.

The DFA said the suspect met the women through a dating site and that their corpses were found at an abandoned mining site in the town of Mitsero earlier this month. However, Cyprus police are still looking for the body of the missing daughter, reported AFP.

The DFA said that they initially thought that the Filipinas were merely missing and were not victims of a violent crime. They also said that they are providing updates to the families of the murdered Filipinas and are ready to provide assistance to them if necessary, The Philippine Daily Inquirer wrote.

Media outlets in Cyprus have dubbed the crimes as the country’s first serial killings. The suspect is in the custody of the Cypriot police and is facing charges of murder and kidnapping.
