As somewhat of a preventive measure for a sin he was about to commit, a man went to church to ask God for forgiveness before stealing from a milk tea shop in Sampaloc, Manila yesterday.

Most practicing Catholics would know that’s not exactly how confession works but the man said he did it out of desperation as his 4-year-old child had a fever, ABS-CBN News reported.

According to the report, he first went to Manila’s famed Quiapo Church to attend mass and say sorry.

“I told the Lord that I now leave it all up to Him because I had nowhere else to turn to,” he said in Filipino.

He then headed to the milk tea shop in Sampaloc where he held the cashier at “gunpoint” using his child’s toy gun and managed to steal more than PHP33,000 (US$616.65). A knife was also marked as evidence.

The cashier immediately asked the police and barangay tano(village guards) for help. Authorities caught the man and recovered the stolen money.

The man had no previous criminal record, according to Manila Police District (MPD) Station 4 Commander Superintendent Andrew Aguirre, ABS-CBN News reported.

He can say goodbye to that clean record, though, as he now faces robbery charges.

Good thing God never gets tired of forgiving, huh?
