When you’re planning a crime, make sure you’re texting the right number.
A 42-year-old father in Washington state has been arrested after his murder plan was mistakenly sent to the wrong person.
The suspect (JL) sent messages intended for a hitman named “Shayne” to his former boss, who promptly alerted the authorities about JL’s plot to kill his wife and four-year-old daughter for life insurance money.
“Hey Shayne how’s it going. You remember you said that you would help me kill my wife. I’m going to take you up on that offer,” JL allegedly said as reported by KIRO7.
The suspect suggested to make it look like an accident or a robbery gone wrong. He promised to split the USD 1 million insurance money with the hitman.
JL added that he will give the hitman a bonus if he will also kill their daughter, who has an insurance policy of her own worth USD500,000.
According to a report by Seattle Times, JL explained that he has no intention to send the messages. He merely wrote the drafts to “vent.” The messages might have been accidentally sent by his daughter.
JL’s Filipina wife said that they’ve been married for seven years. She confirmed that they had financial problems, but she was unaware of marital issues that may have caused her husband to plan a maurder.
“A judge ordered him held in the Snohomish County Jail in lieu of USD1 million bail after finding probable cause on two counts of criminal solicitation for first-degree murder domestic-violence, jail and court records show,” Seattle Times reports.
