Is anyone buying his excuse?
By the way, the names of both the runaway groom and his wronged bride-to-be were not mentioned in the report.
“A groom who allegedly ran from his own wedding was arrested by police on Wednesday, April 29, in Quezon City, after the family of the frustrated bride-to-be complained to authorities that he failed to pay their bills to the wedding coordinator and that he had planned not to show up for the ceremony,” reports GMA News Online.
However, the groom said that he merely ran late due to a flat tire. He related in Filipino, “It’s not that I stood her up, I was just late. When I got to the Eco-Park they were gone.”
The frustrated bride-to-be’s father did not accept his explanation. “I don’t believe he just had a flat tire. I always suspected he’d abandon my daughter.”
The report noted: “According to Ging Salonga, the wedding coordinator of the couple, close to PHP200,000 has been given by the mother of the runaway groom for the wedding but not a single cent has been turned over to them.”
It sure seems like the runaway groom kept the cash.
