A man was arrested today after security personnel found live ammunition inside his backpack at the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) North Avenue station in Quezon City.

The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Don Ray Adina, the MRT-3 management said in a statement.

During the inspection, Adina was found to be carrying one magazine and eight pieces of 10-millimeter bullets inside his backpack. The bullets were detected through the baggage scanner.

Adina is currently under the custody of Philippine National Police Regional Mobile Force Battalion in Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City.

He will be charged with violation of Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. He will also be charged for violating the Omnibus Election Code because the election gun ban will run until June 12.

The MRT-3 assured the public that the incident won’t be taken lightly. “[S]trict security measures will continue to be implemented across MRT-3 trains and stations for the safety and security of passengers,” it said.

The MRT-3 management also reminded passengers to remain vigilant and to report suspicious people or items immediately to authorities.
