This is how NOT to start your week.
“The bus hostage situation involving a man on an Everlasting bus that stopped along North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) has been resolved as of 8:35 a.m. on Monday, October 20. The bus had come from Tuguegarao and was bound for Cubao when the incident occurred,” reports ANC.
The suspect, who’s been identified as Lauro Sanchez, is now under the custody of the Bulacan police. He had announced that he was taking over the bus at around 6am, as bus was going through the Santa Rita exit of the NLEx in Guiguinto, Bulacan.
Sanchez was said to have boarded the Cubao-bound bus from Cauayan, Isabela.
There were people who managed to get out of the bus when Sanchez suddenly held a foreign passenger at knifepoint. He was left with 13 passengers inside the bus.
Fortunately, the 13 hostages were all unharmed.
Police said they are now trying to find out why Sanchez held the bus passengers hostage.
The report said that Sanchez demanded to talk to media to air his grievance against members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
However, police are still trying to determine if he had a “legitimate issue” or if he was merely under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Police added that Sanchez could also be “mentally unstable.”
