Man arrested for hostaging an 11-month-old baby in Manila

Some people should just be kept away from children. Period.

Police authorities arrested 20-year-old Jamel Balacuit after hostaging an 11-month-old infant on Saturday in Sta. Cruz, Manila.

Annalyn Encinares, the baby’s mother, told ABS-CBN News that she noticed Balacuit standing by their front door at around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. A few minutes later, Balacuit entered her home and forcibly took the child.

Balacuit used a flower vase to hostage the baby. It took nearly three hours for the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team to rescue the baby and apprehend the suspect.

The baby is unharmed, but the suspect suffered minor scrapes and bruises from the scuffle. Balacuit is being charged with alarm and scandal, serious illegal detention and violation of special protection of children against abuse and exploitation.

According to Inspector Rolando Almendres of SWAT, Balacuit might be under the influence of drugs.

Kinukuha niya ‘yung sasakyan at ticket pauwing probinsya. Wala s’ya sa kaisipan,” Almendres tells ABS-CBN News.
