A man allegedly tried to rape a 62-year-old woman inside her her own home in the village of Carmen in Cagayan de Oro City yesterday.
ABS-CBN reported that the 44-year-old suspect, who is friends with the victim’s child, has been living in the same house for two weeks prior to the alleged crime.
The victim said that she fought off the suspect and one of her grandchildren called the police for help.
The suspect was caught and refused to be interviewed by the media. The victim initially planned to file an acts of lasciviousness case against him but the suspect’s mother, whom the victim is friends with, intervened and asked her to drop it.
The suspect’s mother said in Filipino: “My son did it only because he was drunk. I hope she could forgive my son.”
While the excuse sounds lame, it was enough to convince the victim to drop her plan to sue the suspect.
The victim said in Filipino: “I don’t feel sorry for him but because his mother asked [me to drop the complaint] and because she’s my friend I will no longer file a case.”
Police freed the suspect after the victim set a condition that he is no longer allowed to see her.
