Yesterday, a group of friends went around a neighborhood in the village of Saint Joseph in Baguio City. Not for anything fun but to raise funds in order to take their dead friend’s body home to La Union province.
According to ABS-CBN News, their friend identified as 32-year-old June Alpuerto died after their drinking buddy stabbed him in Baguio City on New Year’s Day.
Boddy Singsing, one of Alpuerto’s friends who was there when the incident happened told ABS-CBN News that they were just having a drinking session when the suspect stabbed the victim.
Singsing added that he and their other friends wanted to rush Alpuerto to the hospital but the suspect allegedly blocked them from the victim to ensure that he does not get up again.
The suspect also allegedly threatened to harm whoever tried to help Alpuerto.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident, the report added. He requested to stay anonymous in the report, ABS-CBN News states.
The suspect claimed that the victim challenged him to a fistfight.
He told ABS-CBN News in Filipino: “I felt like I lost my mind and I didn’t know that I had already stabbed [him].”
He will now face murder charges.
