A 22-year-old man was killed in a seemingly freak accident last Saturday in the little town of Baao, Camarines Sur.
According to a report by ABS-CBN News, Jeffrey Bonafe was just playing basketball with friends when the backboard, rim, and basketball post all came crashing down, landing directly on his body.
No one else was harmed due to the tragedy, but it caused Bonafe’s immediate death.
Local government officials are at a loss to explain what happened.
Village chief Ralan Besiño said that there had been recent typhoons in the area, but the post didn’t show visible signs of damage.
The basketball court has been temporarily closed.
