Malacañang said on Sunday that it is too soon to order the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) not to implement an increase in water service rates as public consultation is still ongoing.
A GMA News report quoted deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte as saying that it will also look into the MWSS process. Public consultations are under way, but there are already protests from militant groups. Last week, the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) said the so-called public consultations being held by the private concessionaire are “just for show”.
Earlier, MWSS Regulatory Office acting chief Atty. Emmanuel Caparas revealed that water rate adjustments are due to take effect in July.
