Unless you’re joining the festivities, maybe it’s best if you steer clear of Makati this coming Sunday, Feb 23. However, if you’re not doing anything else, it’s worth a look.
“The Makati City government said traffic will be rerouted for the Caracol Festival at Circuit Makati in the former site of the Sta. Ana horse race track,” reports Joel E. Zurbano in Manila Standard Today.
According to the report, the Caracol Fetsival is “a local version of Rio de Janiero’s Mardi Gras.” It started as the Fiesta Islands program of the Department of Tourism before becoming a celebration in the city that involves villages and schools.
Festival participants dress in nature-inspired costumes—as flowers, trees, birds, butterflies, fruits, and other endangered species of animals—to celebrate the country’s flora and fauna.
This year, the Caracol Festival participants are expected to assemble at the side of Hippodromo and Olympia Sts. for a parade at 2pm along Hippodromo St. going to A.P. Reyes St. towards the main gate of Circuit Makati.
As such, the roads to be closed be closed to traffic on that day are the following: 1. Hippodromo Street from Liwayway St. to A.P. Reyes St. 2. Portions of streets adjacent to Hippodromo, namely, Liwayway, Sampaguita, Kakarong, Sampaguita, Zapote, Hiwaga, and Economia together with A.P. Reyes St. from J.P. Rizal to Pascua St.
