LTFRB wants road safety and courtesy courses included in school curriculum

May we suggest anger management courses as well?

“The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is pushing for the integration of road safety and courtesy courses in the basic education curriculum amid the rampant violation of traffic rules and regulations,” reports Czarina Nicole O. Ong in Manila Bulletin.

The report noted: “Through a letter, LTFRB board member Atty. Ariel Inton formally appealed to Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Armin Luistro to consider integrating road safety and courtesy lessons in the school curriculum so that students will grow up with a responsible approach and mindset in terms of driving and road safety and courtesy.”

Inton remarked, “People seem to have lost their sensibility and commitment to be part of the solutions that we seek, or at least avoid being part of the problem.”

He added, “[This is why] I would like to respectfully suggest that the DepEd consider to include in the curriculum for the primary and secondary education the principles of road courtesy and to re-introduce to the minds of our youth the importance of road safety.”

The proposed curriculum hopes to target not only would-be drivers, but also pedestrians.
