It’s about time.
“The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) started on Thursday, January 15, the implementation of the mandatory identification (ID) system for taxi drivers in Metro Manila,” reports Janvic Mateo in The Philippine Star.
The report noted: “LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez reminded taxi operators to issue IDs to their drivers and submit a list of authorized cabbies to the agency. He added that taxi drivers should display the IDs inside their vehicles where the passengers can easily see their identities.”
Violators of the ID policy will be fined PHP5,000.
It may be recalled that the LTFRB came up with the ID requirement following a series of robberies involving taxi drivers and/or criminals posing as taxi drivers in the metropolis.
