LTFRB mulls issuing franchise to Uber

This is a far cry from the crackdown that was imposed on Uber cars.

“Despite the current moratorium on franchises being issued to taxi cabs, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chair Winston Ginez said they might consider issuing franchises to vehicles affiliated with car service provider Uber,” reports Reinir Padua in The Philippine Star.

According to Ginez, “it will be up to the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) — the LTFRB’s mother agency — to decide whether the government would grant franchises to Uber-affiliated vehicles.”

In a recent statement, DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya had told the LTFRB to work with Uber. Abaya said the LTFRB could learn modernization moves from Uber.

We ask: What would Uber learn from the LTFRB?
