LRT rehab starts, management says it won’t affect daily run

Well, it’s about time.

“The long delayed projects to replace the worn-out rail tracks and corroded gantry anchor bolts of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) line 1 were finally given the green light earlier this week and the rehabilitation works are expected to as soon as possible,” reports Kris Bayos in the Manila Bulletin.

The report revealed that the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) awarded the separate projects to the joint venture of OMMC-KORAIL-Erin and Marty-Jorgman.

The said contractor is tasked to replace 23 kilometers of LRT 1 rail tracks and 1,760 corroded gantry anchor bolts along the rail line. They have 20 months to replace the LRT 1 rail tracks and 36 months to replace the gantry anchor bolts.

The Light Rail Transit Authority management assured the public that the rehab works will not affect the daily operations of the LRT 1.
