Train riders may now use their tap-and-go Beep cards for southbound trips (Roosevelt going to Baclaran) on the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1).

Prior to this public trial on LRT-1, the Beep cards have only been used on the LRT-2 line.

Beep cards are being sold at a separate booth at the LRT-1 entrance. Commuters have the option to buy a either a single journey card or a stored value card.

A single journey Beep card costs PHP20, but it can only be used at station where it was purchased. On the other hand, a store valued card costs PHP100. It includes load worth PHP80 and is valid for four years. It can be reloaded for as low as PHP12 to as high as PHP12,000.

The LRTA is still polishing the system on granting the 20% fare discount to senior citizens and persons with disability (PWDs).

The management will announce the discount application procedures next week.

Meanwhile, manual ticketing is still implemented at LRT- 1 northbound stations while the installation of new Automated Fare Collection System gates, turnstiles and ticket vending machines is ongoing.

The LRT management said it plans to implement the tap and go system for LRT1 northbound trips starting first week of September.

Commuters find the tap-and-go card easier to use, and some of them think this new system will save them time, as this is expected to shorten the queue during rush hours.

Full implementation of the Beep cards at all LRT stations is expected to start by the end of September.
