Unidentified shooters barged inside the municipal hall of Los Baños, Laguna last night and killed its mayor, Caesar Perez.
Police reported that Perez was walking towards the town hall’s receiving area at about 8:45pm when the gunmen shot him twice in the head. He was rushed to HealthServ Los Baños Medical Center for treatment but attending physicians declared him dead at 9:25pm.
Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez sent his condolences to Mayor Perez’s family and constituents in an online post. “I condemn the killing of Mayor Perez, and I have ordered an investigation into the crime so that justice can be served,” the governor said in Filipino in his statement.

A former vice governor of Laguna, Mayor Perez was included in President Rodrigo Duterte’s list of alleged drug traders. The late mayor had repeatedly denied that he was involved in the illegal drug business.
In May 2017, his younger brother Ruel Perez was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen in San Pedro, another Laguna town.
Laguna police said today that it has created a task force to investigate the mayor’s killing.
