As Mayon capped its third week of eruptions today, it spewed a 1,000-meter ash plume.
About 81,000 people have been evacuated from the areas surrounding Mount Mayon and may not be able to return home for the next three months.
The volcano has been emitting carbon dioxide and sulfur in “degassing” episodes that may lessen the chances of further eruption, vulcanologists said.
Officials said earlier this week that food and other supplies remain adequate but concerns are growing over health and hygiene conditions at all the 69 temporary shelters away from the danger zone.
The alert level around Mayon remains at level 4, a notch away from the highest alert.
There have been no reported injuries or deaths yet caused by the eruption.
