LOOK: If Disney Princesses were Pinay, this is how their lives would be

So #IfDisneyPrincesseswerePinay is apparently a thing on Twitter.

It’s an amusing series of Tweets, which fuse together classic fairytales with modern realities, usually harsh. The result? A bittersweet narrative with thought-proving questions on being a Filipina. Happy endings, not necessary.

Here are some funny ones:

BBC World took notice of the hashtag’s popularity, and graphic artist Goh Wei Chun even created visuals to paint a clearer, more poignant series.

So what does once upon look like in Manila? Here are Goh Wei Chun’s works:

No snow in the Philippines. So elsa will be the queen of volcano ash instead. Given the number of typhoons in the Philippines, she could also be the Queen of Flood.  PHOTO: Goh Wei Chun
Cinderella could also be an OFW with a harsh master who keeps her passport.  PHOTO: Goh Wei Chun

So is it really impossible for a Pinay to be a true blue Disney Royalty? Not really.

Let’s not forget that we have our own Lea Salonga who voiced two Disney princesses, Jasmine and Mulan.

There are also hundreds of Filipino talents who transform into Disney Princesses for work at the Hongkong Disneyland.

While a fairytale ending is not always guaranteed, being a Pinay Disney princess is not impossoble.
