In a ceremony separate from the inauguration of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte, Leni Robredo was sworn into office as the 14th Vice President of the Philippines in a simple ceremony at the Quezon City Reception House on the morning of Thu, Jun 30.
Upon the advice of Leni Robredo’s feung-shui consultant, the oath-taking ceremony started at 9am. The Payatas Children’s Choir sang the National Anthem during the opening. Christian, Ifugao, Muslim and Catholic prayers were said during the ecumenical service, ABS-CBN News reports.
Ronaldo Coner, chief of the poorest barangay in Robredo’s hometown Camarines Sur, administered her oath. Robredo’s youngest daughter, Jillian, held the bible. Her two other daughters were also on stage.
During the opening of her speech, Leni highlighted important moments of her personal life including the death of her well-loved husband, Jesse Robredo, and the birth of her children. She used the native Filipino language in her speech.
She emphasized that her office is open to anyone who would need her assistance. Her speech lasted only 10 minutes.
Only 300 guests were invited to Robredo’s inauguration. Here were some of the icons spotted by DZMM TeleRadyo’s Johnson Manabat at the event.
