Long weekend: It’s a good time to be a student

Education Secretary Armin Luistro has called off classes in preschool, elementary and high school today, Oct 14, in Metro Manila, anticipating the impact of a medical mission by the Iglesia ni Cristo in several areas in Manila. Luistro said he arrived at the decision after discussing the potential traffic scenario in the National Capital Region with Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chair Francis Tolentino. Luistro said he was advised about the “huge activity” of Iglesia ni Cristo. On top of the suspensions, the city governments of Manila, Malabon and Marikina also called off classes in colleges in their areas. Last week, Malacañang declared Oct 15 a special nonworking holiday to mark Eidul Adha, or Feast of the Sacrifice. That means a long weekend for students, especially those who just went through a grueling finals week (and we don’t mean UAAP).
