Queues are nothing new at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), which had the honor of being called the worst airport in the world in 2013.

But this is insane.

19 immigration officers working at country’s premier gateway didn’t show up for work last Sunday, leaving passengers irked about the long lines at the passport control of NAIA Terminal 3, GMA News reports.

Those who showed up for work tried to compensate for the absence of their colleagues by not leaving their booths for breaks, but it was still not enough to accommodate the volume of travelers.

Personnel from the Bureau of Immigration explained that they cannot force their employees to show up fo work, especially the ones who filed their leave of absence in advance.

It has earlier been reported that employees at the Bureau of Immigration (BI) are skipping work en masse as a sign of protest against the suspension of their overtime pay.

According to ABS-CBN News, “Duterte in January barred the Bureau of Immigration from using express lane fees to compensate for the overtime hours rendered by Immigration officers, and pay the salary of contractual and job-order employees.”
