Better safe than sorry.
According to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) operations division, the London-bound Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight PR 720 took off from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) at around 2pm on Fri, Jul 22. The flight had 155 passengers on board.
“However, a few minutes after the plane took off, the cockpit indicators detected smoke initially in the cabin emanating from the air-conditioning system. Smoke and fire was later observed on the main landing gear forcing the plane to turn back to the NAIA,” reports Jeannette I. Andrade on Inquirer.net.
The PAL plane landed safely at NAIA around 17 minutes after it departed. Once it docked at Bay 49 of NAIA Terminal 2, MIAA fire and rescue division personnel were deployed as a precautionary measure.
PAL ended up cancelling the flight due to mechanical problems.
