A former local beauty queen died a tragic death after she was shot in the head by one of the men who delivered flowers and chocolates to her home in Plaridel, Bulacan Wednesday.

23-year-old Mary Christine Balagtas — who won the La Bulakenya beauty pageant in 2009 — died on the way to the Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Pulilan town.

The two men escaped using a motorcycle. The police recovered an empty shell from a .45 caliber piston.

According to a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Plaridel police Chief Supt. Julio Lizardo said the “attack could have been carried out by a hired gun.”

Police authorities are now focusing their investigations on a man who had a romantic relationship with Balagtas.

The victim’s loved ones are calling for justice with the hashtag #JusticeforChristine on social media.

Members of the Balagtas family declined interview requests from the media.
