Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Monday released the Valley Fault System (VFS) Atlas, a handbook of large-scale maps showing in detail areas traversed by the Valley Fault System.
The VFS is an active fault system in the Greater Metro Manila Area composed of two fault segments: the 10-km-long East Valley Fault (EVF) in Rizal and the 100-km-long West Valley Fault (WVF) that run through different cities and towns of Bulacan, Rizal, Metro Manila, Cavite and Laguna.
Phivolcs said since they released the atlas, the number of residents seeking more information on whether they are affected has increased.
Based on their research, at least 70 villages and subdivisions can be found along the fault system.
Phivolcs, however, clarified that the fault system only runs through some parts of the subdivisions.
