An administration campaign rally in Tondo, Manila on Thursday to kick off the last few days before the elections had only two of the 12 candidates attending, with two sending representatives instead.
Team PNoy, led by the administration Liberal Party, was at Plaza Hernandez in Tondo to drum up support for its candidates as well as for LP candidate Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim.
According to a report on Malaya Business Insight, though, only Senator Francis Escudero and former Las Pinas representative Cynthia Villar were there. Senator Aquilino Pimentel III was represented by his mother while the President’s nephew Bam Aquino sent his wife as a proxy.
This did not keep Lim from bashing his opponent, former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada, though.
“How can he say that Tondo is his stronghold? He should have won here in 2010 (if that were true),” Lim said in Filipino. Estrada ran for president in 2010 but lost to President Benigno Aquino III. Aquino got around 2,000 more votes than Estrada did in Manila.
Estrada, who has been trading barbs with Lim throughout the campaign, has reportedly been endorsed by the influential Iglesia ni Cristo.
Team PNoy will be holding a campaign rally in Quezon City on Friday to show support for Mayor Herbert Bautista and his slate.
