License plate sheets worth millions stolen from LTO compound

It sounds like a big joke, but the government actually published a statement about the missing license plates on the Official Gazette.

We have several questions.

How can piles of metal plate sheets be stolen from a secure LTO compound? What can a person do with thousands of metal plates anyway? Who is behind all this?

According to the Official Gazette, the robbery took place inside the LTO central office compound in East Avenue, Quezon City. It was discovered after the Holy Week break.

LTO spokesperson Jason Salvador did not reveal details about the what happened. However, he assured that, “whoever behind in the robbery would face the consequences.”

On social media, netizens are expressing their disbelief. This new setback will likely prolong the agony of motorists waiting for their new plates.

Prior to the robbery, it was reported that the license plates were abandoned at one of the country’s ports after the importer failed to pay PHP40-million in taxes.
