It turns out the Liberal Party isn’t so liberated after all — that is, when it comes to sleazy shenanigans that get national coverage.

As such, the party has dismissed Camarines Norte Governor Edgardo Tallado from its roll of members for immorality.

In a resolution, the LP found Tallado “guilty of committing grossly immoral conduct inimical to the interests of the Liberal Party in violation of Article I, Section 7(1) of the Party Constitution.”

The resolution was signed by LP officers Rep. Josephine Sato, Rep. Mel Senen Sarmiento, Rep. Edgardo Erice, Rep. Jerry Treñas, Gov. Alfonso Umali, and Mayor Lenardo Javier.

Tallado’s ouster stemmed from a complaint filed against him by Mayor Tito Sarion for disloyalty to the party, immorality, and because he is facing several criminal and administrative cases.

In its decision, the LP did not find any cause to dismiss Tallado for the other allegations except for the issue of immorality.

Tallado was involved in a scandal in 2014 when intimate photos of him with another woman were released and circulated on the Internet.

In its resolution, the party said the “name and image of the LP was dragged into the scandal, considering that Respondent Tallado is a member of the same and it tarnished the good reputation of the party that the entire membership has been trying to maintain.”
