Looks like Former Vice President Leni Robredo won’t have to say goodbye to her daughter Tricia, who was recently accepted into Harvard Medical School, for very long. The former VP is joining the Harvard Kennedy School as one of its prestigious Hauser Leaders for the Fall 2022 semester, she announced on social media.
“A huge honor to be invited at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Center for Public Leadership, as one of its Hauser Leaders for the Fall 2022 semester. What a blessing to be returning to Cambridge for this opportunity,” Robredo wrote on Twitter.
“I’m both thrilled & humbled to be given this space to share my advocacies & experiences, alongside a roster of distinguished leaders from various fields,” she added.
Robredo joins other distinguished US leaders and key figures such as former US representative and Wilson Center president emerita Jane Harman, and Michael Lomax, the CEO and president of the United Negro College Fund.
In explaining her selection, the Harvard Kennedy School cited Robredo’s transformation of the Office of the Vice President during her term “from its traditional role of performing purely ceremonial functions to an advocacy-centered office,” most notably the poverty alleviation program Angat Buhay (Uplift Lives) that worked with private sector partners to uplift some of the Philippines’ poorest and most remote communities.
It also mentioned Robredo’s stints chairing the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council and Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs, both of which were cut short, but still managed to produce meaningful reforms within those brief time periods.
The Hauser Leaders Program hosts a diverse panel of “high-profile leaders and practitioners from across public, nonprofit, and private sectors,” and Hauser Leaders are expected to “spend their time on campus advising students and engaging with faculty during richly-programmed visits throughout the academic year.”
