At least five people have died after the bus they were riding fell off a cliff in Don Salvador Benedicto town in the Visayas province of Negros Occidental last night.
The incident occurred at around 9pm in Barangay (Village) Igmaya-an where the passenger bus fell almost 40 feet down, the Manila Bulletin reported.
The vehicle that reportedly carried 16 people came from San Carlos City and was on its way to Bacolod City, both in Negros Occidental, when the driver reportedly lost control of the brakes, according to ABS-CBN News.
This happened as the driver was traversing a curved part of the road, police told Radyo Inquirer. Apart from those who died, at least six people were also injured. Authorities are still looking for the remaining passengers. Both the bus driver and conductor reportedly survived the incident.
Don Salvador Benedicto Police chief Gerald Moya told Radyo Inquirer that if the bus didn’t get caught in the sugar cane plantation, it would’ve fallen even lower and caused more fatalities.
